The Republican National Air Force or Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana, was formed after the Italian state surrendered to the allies in 1943. The air units stationed in northern Italy fell under the rule of the occupying Germans and were equipped with aircraft such as the G.55, Messerschmitt Bf-109 and Junkers JU-87.
