Originally seen on WWI RAF heavy bombers and known as the "night roundel". Used in a variety of locations, but primarily upper wing surfaces in WWII. PRU aircraft had them applied on the fuselage and upper wings. Retired in 1947 and although a similar Low-Visibility version was introduced in the 1970s, this newer roundel had a ratio of 1:2 vs 2:5 of the early design.
